April 2011 is quite a special month indeed.
We have the Queen’s birthday (Queen Elizabeth 2nd) on the Thursday the 21st, followed by Good Friday the very next day (22nd). St Georges Day is next, on the 23rd, and Easter Sunday (Easter day) follows up on the 24th. The 25th brings us Easter Monday and our April bank holiday.
April this year brings the royalists of Britain a very special occasion indeed. On Friday the 29th Prince William and Catherine Middleton have their royal wedding at Westminster Abbey. So, as we can see, there are plenty of great things going on this April.
If that wasn’t enough the Met Office has published that the weather in Britain in the next week will continue to climb to 25C (wow!). The third warmest April since 1949. That year it peaked at 29C. In the next few days we are set to have some of the best weather in Europe. It’s believed that the temperatures in the Costas [ Spanish coast ] are going to be lower than Britain over the weekend.
So with all what’s going on this April, there’s much to look forward to. For me, the promise of all the warm weather makes me want to get out there and enjoy the great British sunshine. Now is the time to go into the beautiful countryside and see the wonderful bright colours of the wild spring flowers in bloom. The fresh smell of the spring breeze and the bird songs are all what makes this time of year so very magical for me. I enjoy nothing more than taking my family for picnics in the peaceful meadows. A nice cool glass of white wine makes the experience even that much nicer. Salem House is one of our wonderful nanookie stores and has some fantastic picnic baskets and wine glasses for enjoying out in the countryside.
I actually still love to spend hours picking daisies with my children. It always amazes me how content they are making daisy chains for me. I often think that simple pleasures are sometimes the best, and I see this in my children’s eyes when they’re playing in the meadows. Back at home though, I hope to see the results of my many weeks of hard work planting my very own flowers. A few weeks from now I hope to see my garden transformed into a blooming oasis (with a lot of TLC and a bit of luck!) Our nanookie store “The Garden Room” has some truly wonderful and unusual organic flower seeds ideal for this time of year.
With spring in the air we thought it was right to have a spring makeover for nanookie’s Home Page. We’ve added a “Gift Ideas Button", which directs users straight to the gift category page. We have also added another interesting section called “Our stores in detail”. Here we write about themes related to a particular store and publish with links to, and information about, a particular nanookie store. This is a great way to get more information about a particular nanookie store, the owners behind them, and the great things they sell. At the moment we are featuring “Perfect Portion Control” the providers of “The Diet Plate”. Read more about this great store.
This month we’ve included our wonderful nanookie store “Saathay” in the “Nanookie Recommends” section. We think they have some very beautiful and unique cushions and throws for to give a special uplift to the home this spring.
In our featured flash video we have A&V Designs, who have some fantastic unique limited edition bags created using recycled antique and vintage fabrics. They are wonderfully colourful and ideal for the time of year, and great weather ahead.
I hope you have a wonderful month
Very Best Wishes
Ann Kirkman
